OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that children grow and learn best in an atmosphere of warmth and respect for their uniqueness as children. We encourage and equip your child toward self-esteem, creativity, independence, and cooperation. To achieve this, our activities will promote:

Self-Esteem
Self-esteem will be enhanced by respecting your child, by treating him or her lovingly and by placing value on what he or she says and does.

Creativity
By developing a sense of curiosity, individual creativity is fostered.

Independence
A variety of stimulating activities are offered for your child to choose from, enjoy and master independently.

Cooperation
By emphasizing trust, fairness, communication and interaction with others, a sense of cooperation is learned.

Discipline
In our nursery school, your child is encouraged to respect the feelings and properties of others.  If discipline becomes necessary, only positive methods which encourage self-control and self-esteem will be used.

Remember the Golden Rule:  Treat other people the way you want them to treat you.

Lisa copy“My name is Lisa Clark and I am the Director of the Homer Nursery School. My husband and I, along with our two children, moved to the town of Homer in July of 2001. My son Zachary attended the Homer Nursery School program in 2002 before starting kindergarten at Homer Elementary school. I have been employed at the nursery school since 2003. I started as  an Aide for two years then moved to a teaching position and then progressed to the position of Director of the program in 2008.”  “It amazes me that the first students that attended nursery school when I began are now starting high school. What a wonderful gift I was given when asked to become part of this program.”

Sarah Bouwens, another Teacher at Homer Nursery School says, “My husband, daughters and I moved to the area in June 2006.  All three of our daughters attended Homer Nursery School; it was a wonderful experience for each of them!  I was a substitute teacher here for 2 years prior to accepting a position in the fall of 2012.   It is such a blessing to be excited about going to work each day spending time playing, teaching and learning with children.”
