Adult Ministry

Adult Faith Formation

Sunday 9:30 am

At Homer Congregational UCC, we believe that Christian Education is not just for children.  We believe that Faith Formation is a life-long spiritual journey.  So come and join us for a book discussion.  Recently we have considered Anne Lamott’s book about prayer called Help, Thanks, Wow and the Viktor Frankel classic Man’s Search for Meaning.  In between books, we spend our hour by watching a TED Talk, followed by discussion.  Speakers for the TED Talks have included Rob Bell, Brene Brown and Anne Lamott.  The coffee is on early, so stop by and be a part of some thought-provoking conversation.

Disciple Bible Study

Thursday at 11 am; Sunday at 4 pm

Over 24 weeks, we are reading and discussing the entire Bible.  Adult students complete about 20 minutes of “homework” each evening, and our class discussions last 75 minutes.  Each week, the same lesson is offered at either time.

Lunch Bunch

Thursdays, 12:30 pm

A weekly Bible Study and prayer group. We bring a lunch and meet in the boardroom to “catch up”, discuss a devotional book series and talk about the upcoming readings for worship—usually with the pastor.

Youth Ministry

In the Homer Congregational Church youth groups, young people learn what it means to be accepted as well as to treat others with respect, compassion, and kindness, according to the teachings of Jesus. We trust that modeling the  love for one another that Christ teaches can change lives and change the world. We enjoy a range of activities which include mission and service, fun and fellowship, and living what we believe. In recent years, teens from Homer CC have taken part in mission work trips to New Orleans, Mexico, and Colombia. We are open to new experiences for service and mission—what, and where, calls to you?

Youth Groups and Sunday School

9:15 am – 10:30 am, September through June

Children are welcome in worship and at the Communion Table, and those in 2nd grade and younger may go to the nursery after the children’s moment. Confirmation classes are held for students in 9th grade and above, as preparation for adult church membership.

Youth starting at age 13 (and adults too!) are welcome to play softball on the Homer CC Legends, the funnest team in the Cortland Church League!
